Built to be read from the back of the room
Classroom Timer
This classroom timer is made to be read from the back of the room.
00:00
Set a duration and press Start.
Large digits, a fullscreen mode and presets for group work, tests and transitions, all on the same countdown as the main online timer. Open it on the classroom display or projector and start. Nothing to install and no account, for you or for the students.
Common classroom uses
A visible, reliable countdown removes a lot of friction from managing a room full of students, everyone can see for themselves how much time is left, instead of asking.
- Timing a group activity or a think-pair-share discussion
- A silent-reading or independent-work block
- A timed quiz section or a practice test
- Transition time between activities or when packing up before the bell
- A quick brainstorm or a "one idea per person" round
- A presentation or speech time limit, visible to the presenter and the audience
- A brain-break or stretch break between longer blocks
Quick durations for common classroom blocks
Tap a quick-duration chip below the display for a common classroom length, or type an exact hours/minutes/seconds value into the fields. Every option counts down the same way, with the same alarm and fullscreen mode.
| Duration | Typical classroom use | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 minute | A quick pair-share or a rapid-fire question round | 1 minute timer |
| 5 minutes | Packing up, a transition, a short warm-up task | 5 minute timer |
| 10 minutes | A short group activity or a reading check | 10 minute timer |
| 15 minutes | Independent work or a quiz section | 15 minute timer |
| 20 minutes | A longer group project block | 20 minute timer |
| 45 minutes | A full class period | 45 minute timer |
Fullscreen mode: readable from the back row
Tap the fullscreen icon and the digits expand to fill the entire screen, in a bold, high-contrast font designed to be read from a distance. It works on a classroom projector, an interactive whiteboard, or a laptop propped up at the front of the room. Press Esc or tap the fullscreen icon again to exit.
The alarm, and muting it during tests
When time runs out, a short two-tone alarm plays (generated directly in your browser, so there's no audio file to load or worry about) along with a large "Time's up!" message on screen. For a silent testing environment, tap the speaker icon before you start, the visual "time's up" message still appears, so students still know the section has ended without any sound.
Accurate even if the display sleeps or you switch tabs
Classroom machines go to sleep, and a browser tab left behind other windows gets slowed down on purpose. Neither of those reaches this count, because it is not a tick at all: the end of the activity is recorded as a time of day at the moment you press Start, and the display works out what is left from there. Take the register, open a slide deck, let the board time out. What is on screen when the timer comes back into view is still the real time remaining.
Setting an exact custom time
Beyond the quick presets, the hours/minutes/seconds fields accept any custom duration, useful for a specific test section length or a non-round number like 12 minutes. Pause and Resume work at any point, useful if an interruption comes up mid-activity, and Reset clears the timer for the next activity.
