A ready-made 15-minute countdown
15 Minute Timer
This 15 minute timer is preset and ready, so one press of Start begins the countdown.
15:00
Set a duration and press Start.
If a quarter of an hour is not the length you had in mind, the hours, minutes and seconds fields and the quick-duration chips are right below the display, and the full online timer has every option.
Fifteen minutes is short enough to say yes to
A quarter of an hour is the length people agree to when they would refuse an hour. It asks almost nothing. That is why it works on the jobs you have been avoiding: the drawer, the inbox, the phone call you keep rescheduling. Fifteen minutes is also long enough to reach the point where you stop resenting the task and carry on past the alarm, which is usually the actual goal.
- One room, one drawer, or one shelf, with a hard stop
- Clearing an inbox down to something you can look at
- A revision block between two longer study sessions
- The phone call you have postponed three times
- A stretch or mobility routine you would skip if it were longer
- Waiting out a cooking step, a wash cycle, or a coat of paint
Using it for the break instead of the work
Most timer pages assume you are counting down work. A fifteen-minute break is the more common case in a school or a shift pattern, and it behaves differently: you want the alarm loud, you want it on a screen you will walk back to, and you do not want to be the person who checks their watch every ninety seconds. Start it, put the phone face down, and let the countdown hold the boundary instead of you. Fullscreen mode helps here, because a break timer is usually read from across a room rather than from arm's length.
Naps, and why fifteen minutes is the cautious choice
Short naps are one of the most common reasons people search for this length. The reasoning is simple enough: waking from a brief nap tends to feel easier than waking from a long one, because deep sleep has had less chance to set in. Fifteen minutes is at the shorter end of that range. It may well be too short to feel like much. What it will not do is turn a twenty-minute plan into an hour, which is the failure mode people actually complain about, and an audible alarm is the part that prevents it.
Press Start, then stop watching the clock
The display already reads 15:00. Press Start and it begins. If you are interrupted, Pause holds the remaining time and Resume continues from exactly there, so a two-minute interruption does not cost you the block. Reset puts it back to fifteen minutes. While it runs, the browser tab title shows the time left, which means you can keep working in another tab and still see the countdown in the tab strip.
If the tab goes to sleep
Backgrounded tabs get throttled on purpose to save battery, and any timer that simply subtracts one second per tick will fall behind. This one does not count ticks. It records the exact clock time your fifteen minutes will end when you press Start, then measures against that, so the number you see when you come back is the real number. Muting matters more than accuracy here: a silenced browser tab on a locked phone cannot wake you, so use the sound if the whole point is that you are not watching.
Nearby lengths
Fifteen minutes sits in the middle of the short-block range, so the useful comparisons are close on either side:
