A ready-made 60-minute countdown
1 Hour Timer
This 1 hour timer is already set to 60 minutes, so a single press of Start gets it going.
01:00:00
Set a duration and press Start.
For anything longer or shorter, the hours, minutes and seconds fields sit under the display and take any value, and the full online timer works the same way.
An hour is long enough to forget you started it
Short countdowns are watched. An hour is not. You set it, you get absorbed in something, and the reason you needed a timer at all is that you will not be thinking about it in forty minutes. That changes which part of the tool actually matters: not the digits, but the noise at the end. Everything on this page is arranged around the assumption that you will have looked away.
- A meeting, workshop or client call with a hard stop
- An hour of study or deep work before you take stock
- A roast, a simmer, or a dough that needs to prove
- A wash cycle, a dishwasher, or a charge you should not forget
- Paid parking, a meter, or a time-limited bay
- An hour of screen time or homework with a visible end point
Why the alarm carries the most weight here
At zero a two-tone beep repeats three times, about two and a half seconds of sound, generated in the browser rather than fetched from a file. On an hour-long countdown that beep is the product. Two things help you catch it: the tab title shows the remaining time while it runs, so the countdown is readable from the tab strip without switching, and it changes to a time-is-up label at the end. The limit is worth stating plainly. If the browser is closed or the device is muted, there is no sound, so an hour you genuinely cannot miss belongs on a phone alarm as well.
An hour is also the worst case for a sleeping tab
Browsers deliberately slow down tabs in the background. A timer that subtracts a second per tick loses a little each time, and over sixty minutes a little becomes minutes. That is the failure people actually notice with web timers, and it is the one thing this page cannot afford. So it does not count ticks at all: pressing Start records the exact clock time the hour will end, and every refresh compares the current time against that target. Come back after fifty minutes in another app and the number will be right.
Going past an hour with the hours field
The hours field is the reason this page is not just a bigger version of the minute pages. Put 2 in it for a two-hour block. Put 1 hour and 30 minutes in for a long exam, or 3 hours for a slow cook. The upper limit is 99 hours, which is well past anything a browser tab will realistically survive, and the practical ceiling is how long you can leave the tab open rather than anything in the timer itself.
Back-to-back hours, one Reset at a time
Several hour-long blocks in a row is normal for a study day or a run of meetings. There is no automatic restart, and that is a choice rather than a gap: the end of an hour is precisely when you want to stand up, note where you got to, or let the next person into the room. Press Reset, which puts the fields back to one hour, then Start when the next block actually begins. For work that should cycle on its own with breaks built in, the Pomodoro timer handles the handover automatically.
Shorter countdowns on this site
If an hour turns out to be too much, the ready-made options below it are one click away:
| Duration | Typical use | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes | A half-hour block or appointment | 30 minute timer |
| 45 minutes | A lesson or a scheduled session | 45 minute timer |
| 1 hour | A meeting, a cooking step, a deep block | This page (already set) |
| Longer than an hour | 90 minutes, 2 hours, 3 hours | Use the hours field above |
